One Time Only

MSC Fantasia (front) met her younger sister, MSC Splendida, at Palama de Mallorca for the first and only time last Thursday (July 9, 2009). The two ships are not normally scheduled to cross paths, but did on the occasion of MSC Splendida's maiden cruise from the yard where it was built to its homeport in Barcelona.
MSC Fantasia entered service late last year, and MSC Splendida entered service when it was delivered on July 4. It continued to Barcelona where it was christened on Sunday (July 12) by its godmother, Sophia Loren. The two ships are near-twins, and at 137,936 gross tons, they are the largest ships ever built for a European owner. Both ships operate 7-day cruises year round in the Mediterranean.
