Meyer Werft Floats Out Celebrity Equinox

Celebrity Equinox saw its first daylight as it was backed out of Meyer Werft's covered building dock on Saturday morning (June 6, 2009).

Just how did that tugboat get into the berth ahead of the ship? Meyer Werft shows us how in another newsfile.

Once outside, the yard performed tests in the harbor and finally docked the ship at the finishing dock in the late afternoon. Do you see what's missing? The ship's funnel and mast still need to be mounted while at the finishing dock.
Once the interior is completed at the finishing dock, the next step is the ship's transit down the Ems River to Eemshaven from which it will depart on sea trials. The river transit is expected on June 19 or 20 dependant on weather conditions.

The 122,000-ton Celebrity Equinox is the second of Celebrity's Solstice-class and will enter service in Europe on July 31.

The amateur video below will give you an idea of the slow methodical process the float out is.
