Norwegian Epic Construction Progresses

The construction of Norwegian Epic's hull was completed early last Wednesday (April 8) when the 445-ton bow section was lowered into place at the STX Europe yard in St. Nazaire, France. Block 642, as it was designated in the design, was 85 feet long, 108 feet wide and almost 30 feet high. The operation took 100 workers about two hours to complete.
Sparks from the welder's torch illuminate the place where he is working, welding the massive block into place. Work will still have to be completed on the superstructure, and of course, the interior of the vessel. The 153,000-gt ship will be delivered at the end of May 2010 and carry 4,200 passengers.
