Puerta Maya Reopens

Carnival Ecstasy and Carnival Fantasy were the first ships to call at Puerta Maya, Carnival Corp's new pier at Cozumel, which reopened today (October 16, 2008). The three-year reconstruction project replaced the previous facility which was destroyed by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Other Carnival brands and additional Carnival Cruise Lines ships will also continue to utilize Cozumel's other piers. Carnival Legend (at right) can be seen berthed at an adjacent pier.
Carnival Ecstasy (at left) was the first to dock, followed by Carnival Fantasy. The new two-berth pier can accommodate any ship currently in the Carnival Corp fleet, and is built to withstand a threshold category 5 hurricane.
The nine-acre cruise center at Puerta Maya has a variety of shops, restaurants and bars. There is an adjacent excursion pier and a four-acre transportation hub.
