Guide to New Ships

Cruise News Daily Main Index
New ships indexed by Cruise Line
New ships indexed by Inaugural Date

The building boom in the cruise industry just doesn't stop. It's hard to believe that this page could be so long, especially when you realize that the price of each of these ships is hundreds of millions of dollars. It's even more mind-boggling when you realize these these aren't the only ships being planned.

What is listed here are ships for which firm orders have been placed (not ones on which the cruise lines just hold options to build later if they decide to, or ones they are planning for which they haven't placed firm orders and signed on the dotted line). This listing includes only large, ocean-going cruise ships (not small coastal vessels, or ferries, even though they will also carry passengers) that are actively marketed in North America. (Note also that even though a cruise line may be touting their "new" ship, it may not be listed here because it may not be newly built, but rather being retired from another line.)

As you read through the listings, please be aware that details change. Delivery dates move as the ship takes shape. These are anticipated dates. Likewise elements of the design also evolve even between the time the ship is ordered and the time of delivery, so grt's and capacities will change.

You can find the ships listed by line and by planned inaugural date. We'll be updating this page on an ongoing basis as new ships are ordered, delivered and details are made known.

Builder: Fincantieri - Italy
This is the fourth ship of a four-ship order from Fincantieri, two of which ended up going to the Carnival brand. It is a progression of a Conquest-class vessel, so Carnival is considering it a new class, and it will have some unique features for the Carnival brand adding 2,000 gross tons to the volume. The most notable new feature is a retractable dome over the mid-ship pool, the first for Carnival. It will also have the largest spa aboard any Carnival vessel (40,000 square feet), including 68 staterooms and suites with direct access to the spa and the line's first thalassotherapy pool. In addition, Carnival Splendor will boast the largest Camp Carnival facilities (5,500 square feet) above which there will be a new water play area.

In June 2007, the line announced that the number of staterooms was being increased to bring double occupancy capacity to 2,100.
